How to Open a TAR File on Mac using Commander One

Download and launch Commander One.

Locate the .tar file you want to open and right-click on it.

Select “Extract file” from the context menu.

That’s it! Commander One will untar the files, and they’ll be displayed in the same pane once completed.

What is the TAR file format?

The .tar file extension is used for archive files created with the Tape Archive program. These files may also carry additional extensions, such as .tar.gz or .tar.z, to indicate that they’ve been compressed.
